Overview

Hidden within the misty forests bordering Neora Valley National Park, Sherpagaon is one of the Eastern Himalayas’ finest destinations for macro photography. The region’s rich cloud forest ecosystem supports an incredible diversity of amphibians, insects, fungi, spiders, and other fascinating forest life, making it a paradise for photographers and naturalists alike.

This immersive workshop is specially designed for photographers looking to improve their macro photography skills through guided field sessions, nocturnal walks, and practical learning in natural habitats. Participants will gain hands-on experience in lighting, composition, fieldcraft, and creative storytelling while exploring one of India’s richest biodiversity hotspots.

The workshop will be led by renowned macro photography experts who will mentor participants throughout the field sessions and discussions.

After breakfast, participants head into the forest for a guided macro photography session focusing on:

  • Natural light macro photography
  • Composition and storytelling
  • Working with forest habitats and textures

Possible subjects include:

  • Jumping spiders

  • Beetles
  • Tree frogs and forest insects

Return to the homestay for lunch and rest.

In the evening, participants head out for another nocturnal field session.

Night Walk Session 2

Advanced macro photography session focusing on:

  • Amphibian photography
  • Creative lighting techniques
  • Behavioural observation
  • Habitat-based compositions

After dinner:

  • Image review session
  • Editing discussion and feedback

Early morning forest session focusing on:

  • Dew-covered subjects
  • Soft natural light opportunities
  • Environmental macro compositions
  • Working with natural backgrounds

Breakfast at the homestay.

Late morning interactive session:

  • Image selection and storytelling
  • Practical troubleshooting
  • Q&A with the mentor

Lunch and rest during the afternoon.

In the evening, participants head out for the final guided field session.

Final Night Walk Session

A dedicated session to:

  • Refine techniques
  • Experiment creatively
  • Build a stronger macro portfolio

Dinner followed by a closing discussion.

Optional early morning photography session around the homestay and nearby trails.

Departure for NJP Railway Station / Bagdogra Airport around 10:00 AM.
